MUMU arthouse Bangkok

MUMU arthouse Bangkok Soi Sribumphen 106/1

MUMU arthouse Bangkok Soi Sribumphen 106/1

MUMU offered breakfasts from 10 am. The favour was french baguette with salami, ham, pate or cheese on a bed of tomatoes, salad and mustard. The first client was always Detlev himself.

Decoration of Oui for the vernissage of Maitree

Decoration of Oui for the vernissage of Maitree

Every artist got his MUMU decoration for his opening. Oui, a student and part of the MUMU family, had an amazing talent to decorate the whole gallery. His inspirations by the artist were unique. Here f.e. he combines the Lotus leaves of Maitree’s home in Isan with hand painted blossoms and little pieces of mirror mosaiks like Maitree uses for his art.

Oui, how Detlev calles him, is born in Isan as well, His name is………..

For the decorations they went mostly late in the night to Rama 4 bridge where the flower market opened. While Detlev was drinking his beer at a simple outside restaurant on the peer and watched the beautiful lights of Wat ….  at the other side of the river. And while for him he big transportation boats with logs from the djungle, sand from the mountains and river cruisers passed by Oui went shopping hundreds of flowers and material that fitted to his work.

Then he spent the whole night and the whole next day for the decoration. Mostly he finished some minutes before the opening.

He was so humble that he never wanted to show up at the opening.

The next day he went off for his work in a call center for TOT to earn money for his family in Isan and his study.

What he earned for his work at MUMU he dircetly sent to his younger so she could pay the school.

Behind the house were the klongs with the old teak houses of King Rama 5 for his officers.

The photo is a little bit avantgarde… or was it the Jägermeister?

The incredible story of Tor is told under the exhibition menu Sittichai (Tor). Here he is 16 years old. His Buddha paintings seem to come from a very old soul. For a while he was one of MUMU’s houseguests because he had no place to stay.

BAR& BISTRO

Cafeteria mit Bar. Detlev mostly played Brazilian Jazz, Isan Khaen and German Classics.

Vernissage with audience

Vernissage with audience

In a very short time MUMU arthouse became one of the top galleries of Bangkok. The vernissages were highly excpected in the cultural life of Bangkok. Until 350 guests joined the openings with their sometimes extravagant performances.

opening times from 10 am to open end
